This is my first post on this blog. Yippieeee.
Honestly, I’ve never been one to be consistent with this sort of thing. I’ve only recently started keeping a pen and paper journal for the sake of keeping track of my thoughts and such. However, with the number of projects I’ll be taking on in the coming months, it seems it would be best for me to have a place to talk about them and the steps I take towards their completion.
This site took a little more effort than I thought it would. Initially, I wanted to try making a site using React, but creating a full CMS from scratch is more of a nightmare than I thought it would be. Then, I went to plain old HTML/CSS/JS, but that left a lot of flexibility and functionality to be desired. That, and I’m just generally not very good at web design (something I hope to fix in the future).
So, after spending some time mulling over my options, I eventually settled on setting up WordPress on a little VPS courtesy of Google’s Cloud Compute. All in all, it took me a few hours to read some documentation, get the software installed, and setup the DNS records. While it was a little bit of a pain getting all the pieces to work together, I’m fairly happy with the result so far.
Next thing on the chopping block is seeing about getting a contact page set up so that people can message me. On top of that, my goal is to submit a post at least once per week. If I’m feeling especially motivated, I could possibly bump that up to two per week. Only time will tell which way the dice land there.
P.S. The photo is Strawberry the Axolotl. It comes from the Wooble line of crochet kits. My friends left the kit behind when they were visiting so I decided to finish it myself.
